Thank you to everyone who helped publicise Ahdaf’s scholarship programme, and to all those who have submitted applications.
We received 108 applications. Four have been rejected as they were received after the deadline date, and 21 have been rejected as they are incomplete. We have 84 applications that are now being reviewed. The process is likely to take a few weeks. All unsuccessful applicants will receive an e-mail to let them know they have not been selected. Students who are shortlisted will be contacted to discuss their application further.

We’ve received a great response with many enquiries and applications being submitted. Some students have clearly thought very hard about how they can effect change in their communities with a project, there’s been some excellent submissions
There’s been a few questions about the process as well, so here is a short list to clarify some points:
- You must be intending to undertake study for you first undergraduate degree
- Ahdaf will support young people who have not attended university before and may consider students who are enrolled and in their first year
- You must be studying at a university in the West Bank or Gaza
- We only pay tuitions fees: not travel, registration or anything else
- You have to run a project for the duration of their studies: this means you need to look at your community and think about what you can do to make it a better place for everyone. Or, you could volunteer at a local organisation. But you need to think about how you can make a positive contribution to your community
- You must fill out the entire application form. Incomplete forms will be rejected
We’ll accept applications until July 25th. Don’t be concerned if you don’t hear from us immediately. Ahdaf pays no staff and is run solely by volunteers, so it takes a while to process everything. This year we hope to select six students to receive support for the entirety of their degree.

June 2011
We are accepting applications now and want to reach as many prospective students as possible. In particular we are looking for young Palestinians who are unlikely to enrol as their families cannot afford to even get them into university: for them higher education is an unattainable goal.
The scholarships are for Palestinians wishing to study an undergraduate degree at universities in the West Bank and Gaza. (In time we hope to open the programme to all Palestinian refugees in the camps throughout the region.) We are redesigning the website over the next month or so, but all the information you need should be on here. Check the how to apply section and the projects page for guidance.
For the past couple of years we have purposely kept the profile of Ahdaf quite low. We’ve not been fundraising nor working to highlight the barriers so many Palestinians face in accessing a university education. We are now looking to do much more work in this area. Please help us reach the young people who most need help to study by sharing information about Ahdaf with friends, contacts and groups that you are active with.
If you’re interested in learning more about Ahdaf and its aims, please do get in touch.

The British Council has this great page which provides details and information about a number of shcolarships available to Palestinians living in the occupied Territories who want to study in Britain.
You may also want to check out the Palestine Solidaity Initiative. PSI’s objective is to provide support and guidance for Palestinian students applying for scholarships to study in Britain. And if you’re in Britain and want to help, you can register on PSI’s website to assist a Palestinian student with their application.
Pass it on!
